Praise for The Maya Papyrus

"Thoroughly enjoyable and deeply satisfying, The Maya Papyrus is an exceptional novel from an author who deserves your appreciation. It is recommended without reservation!"
BookViral.com

"The Maya Papyrus is an astonishingly well-crafted novel. Coady's Egypt – and Egyptians – come to breathtaking life. A massive cast of wholly believable characters drawn straight from the pages of history, a palpable setting, and a plot full of tension and bleak surprises seamlessly interweave to make this one of the best historical novels I've read in a very long time."
L. M. Ironside, author of "The Sekhmet Bed" and "The Crook and Flail"

"A novel that no history fan can put down though the dishes go unwashed and sleep is elusive for several days...a very enjoyable book, and extremely hard to put down."
The Book Review

The Maya Papyrus a novel of ancient Egypt

In the Valley of the Kings, a team of archaeologists has unearthed a secret that has lain buried for over 3000 years. Hidden in Nefertiti's tomb is a bundle of papyrus sheaves. Although badly decayed, the documents have survived well enough to tell an epic tale of war, murder and treachery...

Thuya is a woman who craves greatness. Her son, Aye, is a man who will stop at nothing to attain it. Together they will concoct a scheme so monumental in its scope that it will mould the reigns of Egypt's kings and rewrite the future of the known world.

The Maya Papyrus is populated with some of the most extraordinary characters in history Tutankhamun, the boy king; Akhenaten, the deformed tyrant; Akhenaten's queen, Nefertiti, whose beauty remains legendary three millennia later.

Who among them can stand against a man willing to risk everything to achieve immortality?

The Maya Papyrus eBook Richard Coady

Being an "Egyptomaniac," I was pleased to see this book on
our Amazon; I "peeked inside," and I was delighted! I don't
like Kindle, so I blew my budget and went for the paperback
(not cheap!)...and I'm having marvelous time. My only
quibble is the author's use of modern titles for ancient
cities and temples. Thebes was Waset. And the Temple
of Opet was NOT "Karnak" (an Arabic title used in modern
times). This is a small thing, but it jolts me out of
the story. A book like this is a wonderous "time machine"
and modern titles don't belong there. But perhaps I'm too
fussy. Except for this small title-gripe, I say:
"WELL DONE, RICHARD!" I had originally written this as a
4-star review. I'm bumping it up to 5 stars.

When the paperback arrived, it looked a bit daunting. It's
HUGE! But the writing grabbed me from the first paragraph.
I'm an armchair scholar of the 18th Dynasty. And sure,
this is historical fiction. But Mr. Coady really researched.
And I can tell he loved writing this. I am not rushing
through this sweeping epic...I'm savoring it, and loving it!
Folks, this wonderful book IS a "time machine." The whole
cast from the l8th Dynasty is THERE, and I'm following
them about like a fly on the wall.

For me, there are 3 truly great authors of historical
ancient Egypt fiction: Pauline Gedge (Lord of the Two Lands
trilogy), Max Overton (Scarab series), and now...Richard
Coady (The Maya Papyrus). Whether you want kindle or
paperback, treat yourself and grab this book! WOW.

P.S. I wanna kick Thuya out the window.

3/12/13: I just finished the book. I am in awe. Breathless.
This magnificent book is fiction, yes...but the l8th Dynasty
WAS sinister/fascinating, and in history, Aye was more than
a cold politician. This is gorgeous writing; it grabbed me!
I bet it'll grab you! This huge book never slowed down!
Mr. Coady was written a masterwork. No exaggeration here.

I hope he writes more books. I would love to see him take
on the Harem Conspiracy, and the assassination of Ramses III.
(A CT scan finally looked through the bandages on the
Pharaoh's throat). Ooo...

The Maya Papyrus eBook Richard Coady Reviews

I really enjoyed this book. It took me to a world I had never really thought about spending time in and did a great job of making me feel as though I was actually there. The characters were so well-developed that they came fully to life and seemed real. As I don't know much about Egyptian history, I can't vouch for how accurate this book is, but the whole setting and everything that happened was very believable and the pace never dragged.

I loved the drama and deceit, the plotting and the agonizing that various characters went through. I also enjoyed how they reasoned with themselves that what they did was right when their deeds were less than pious. ) I do enjoy books that show that life is many times not black and white...and the decisions we make in regard to the shade of grey we choose are often hard and would be unacceptable to others.

I loved so many of the people in the book Maya, of course, Nerfetiti, Tutankhamun, Horemheb...the list goes on. Even the characters I disliked I enjoyed disliking immensely!

There is nothing about this book that is a weakness. I would strongly recommend this not only to lovers of historical fiction but to readers who like dark drama with plenty of deceit and plotting. You won't be disappointed.

NOTE Although I am also an author I do not know the author of this work at all. I was not asked to read this book or review it by the author, it was recommended (as I said) by someone else. I'm so glad I took the chance on a book I would not have picked on my own. Now I will be eventually reading more Eygptian HF! Since I am also a reader (and have been a reader much longer than author) I also have the right to review books, as long as I do so fairly and honestly. If for some reason the fact that an author wrote this review bothers you, please feel free to ignore the review. ) Thank you.
